What does each Tumblr action accept?

Each answer below pairs one callable action with its real inputs. Parameter meanings and allowed values are action-specific; a familiar name does not carry the same meaning across every platform.

Official sources are linked only to clarify the platform term beside them. They do not imply platform authorization or endorsement, and they do not add official-site features to the EveryInfra API contract.

What do the Tumblr search parameters mean?

Search Tumblr posts by keyword for text, post type, tags, note count and the blog that posted each one. Pick one post_type at a time; private blogs are excluded, and not every match is guaranteed.

Full API reference: parameters, code samples, response example and health →
keywordRequired
Public post search term for search. The compatibility keyword input for tag actually queries by tag and cannot be treated as an identical search entry point.
Tumblr: Differences Between Keyword Search and Tag Pages — Official documentation separates search pages from tag pages: search pages discover content by words, whereas tag pages aggregate posts containing a specific tag. Blog recommendations, sorting options, and search operators on Tumblr web pages are not automatically supported or verified parameters for this endpoint. · Checked
post_typeOptional
Single post type for search, tag, or user_posts: any for unrestricted, text, photo, video, quote, link, or audio. This is not an array, and profile does not use this filter.
Tumblr: Notes Across Post Types Are Not Separate Like Counts — Official Tumblr documentation defines notes as the combined likes, reblogs, and comments received by a post. Changing the post type does not automatically split note_count into three separate metrics in this endpoint, nor can the total interaction count be interpreted as unique user counts. · Checked

What do the Tumblr tag parameters mean?

Browse the posts filed under a Tumblr tag, with text, post type, tags, note count and blog details. Notes merge likes and reblogs into one total, and a tag does not prove what the post is really about.

Full API reference: parameters, code samples, response example and health →
tagRequired
Topic name for tag, optionally prefixed with #. Returns public tag content.
Tumblr: Tag Search vs. Full-Text Keyword Search — Official documentation explains that tag pages organize posts around a specific added tag, whereas search pages display results based on search queries. This entry clarifies the scope of tags and does not guarantee real-time indexing, complete results, or all filtering options available on the web interface. · Checked
hashtagOptional
Alternative parameter for tag, with lower precedence than tag.
post_typeOptional
Single post type for search, tag, or user_posts: any for unrestricted, text, photo, video, quote, link, or audio. This is not an array, and profile does not use this filter.

What do the Tumblr user_posts parameters mean?

Pull posts from one Tumblr blog with text, post type, tags, note count and publish time. Give the blog's short name or name.tumblr.com, not an https link; one batch may not cover the whole archive.

Full API reference: parameters, code samples, response example and health →
usernameRequired
Blog short name or name.tumblr.com domain. Do not pass a full link containing https:// in this field; complete addresses belong in url. profile queries aggregate public blog data only.
Tumblr: Reblogs and Original Attribution in Blogs — Official documentation notes that reblogs place an existing post on another blog and allow added content; reblogs with added content can appear in general search, but not tag search. This endpoint does not provide a complete reblog chain and cannot infer the original author based solely on the current blog identity. · Checked
post_typeOptional
Single post type for search, tag, or user_posts: any for unrestricted, text, photo, video, quote, link, or audio. This is not an array, and profile does not use this filter.

What do the Tumblr profile parameters mean?

Look up a Tumblr blog's name, description, address and the date of its most recent post. Pass the short name or name.tumblr.com; messages, drafts and protected blogs are out of reach.

Full API reference: parameters, code samples, response example and health →
usernameRequired
Blog short name or name.tumblr.com domain. Do not pass a full link containing https:// in this field; complete addresses belong in url. profile queries aggregate public blog data only.
Tumblr: Primary Blogs, Secondary Blogs, and Group Blogs — Official documentation states that an account can have a primary blog as well as secondary blogs, which can be password-protected or managed by multiple users. Consequently, a blog name does not equal a unique personal identity, and the data on this page does not provide access permissions to password-protected content or account relationship identification. · Checked

Tumblr API questions

What can I retrieve with the Tumblr API?

Set platform to tumblr. The current catalog lists search, tag, posts by user, and profiles. These action names identify different Tumblr objects or views; they are not interchangeable search modes.

Which input starts a Tumblr `search` request?

Public post search term for search. The compatibility keyword input for tag actually queries by tag and cannot be treated as an identical search entry point. Send it as keyword inside params.

Which fields can Tumblr `search` return?

Its declared schema includes text, post_type, author_username, and author_name. A declared field can still be absent from an individual record, and every other action has its own field list.

Does every Tumblr action return immediately?

Actions labeled asynchronous return a job ID you poll. Every other action can also run asynchronously: add "mode": "async" to the request body to receive a job ID immediately, useful for slow tasks or large limits. The current catalog contains sync delivery.
