What does each Medium action accept?

Each answer below pairs one callable action with its real inputs. Parameter meanings and allowed values are action-specific; a familiar name does not carry the same meaning across every platform.

Official sources are linked only to clarify the platform term beside them. They do not imply platform authorization or endorsement, and they do not add official-site features to the EveryInfra API contract.

Tag

List Medium stories filed under a topic tag slug in tag, such as machine-learning, with author, publication, reading time, like and comment counts and a members-only flag. It is not a full-text search, does not get past the paywall and may not return every story under the tag.

What do the Medium tag parameters mean?

List Medium stories filed under a topic tag slug in tag, such as machine-learning, with author, publication, reading time, like and comment counts and a members-only flag. It is not a full-text search, does not get past the paywall and may not return every story under the tag.

Full API reference: parameters, code samples, response example and health →
tagRequired
Specifies the Medium topic tag slug (such as machine-learning), which strips leading # symbols, converts text to lowercase, and replaces spaces with hyphens. It does not perform arbitrary full-text searches.
Medium: Topic Content Feeds and Paywalled Article Boundaries — Medium's official documentation separately lists content feed URLs for authors, publications, and Topics, and explicitly notes that full articles behind a paywall are not included in RSS feeds. This reference clarifies object types and visible content without expanding into arbitrary full-text search or paywalled full-text retrieval. · Checked

What do the Medium user_posts parameters mean?

Collect the stories one Medium author has published, given as a handle or profile URL in username, with title, excerpt, publication, reading time and like and comment counts. Drafts are excluded, the author's whole archive is not guaranteed, and members-only stories are flagged but not unlocked.

Full API reference: parameters, code samples, response example and health →
usernameRequired
Specifies a Medium author handle or full author profile URL, formatting standalone handles into https://medium.com/@<handle> to fetch the author's published post list rather than profile metadata.
Medium: Claps Do Not Represent Unique Reader Counts — Medium allows a single reader to clap multiple times for an article, meaning the total clap count cannot be treated as unique reader volume. This interface does not provide author-visible per-person clap breakdowns, nor does the presence of the field guarantee that clap counts will always be returned. · Checked
urlOptional
Provides a compatibility input for full author or publication URLs in user_posts and publication; required username or publication parameters must still be supplied. Returned post lists may include restricted posts without granting access to paywalled full text.

What do the Medium publication parameters mean?

Browse the stories in a Medium publication, given as a slug or URL in publication, with each story's author, reading time, like and comment counts and a members-only flag. Article titles and author handles do not work as input, and members-only text stays locked.

Full API reference: parameters, code samples, response example and health →
publicationRequired
Specifies a Medium publication slug or full publication URL rather than an article title or author handle, expanding standalone slugs into medium.com/<publication>.
Medium: Publications and Author Pages Use Distinct Content Feeds — Medium separates Publications from @username author pages, and specifies distinct content feed formats for publications on custom domains. This citation highlights object differences; inputs for this interface still follow the parameter specified above without requiring users to pass feed URLs, and no guarantee is made that all custom domains are verified. · Checked
urlOptional
Provides a compatibility input for full author or publication URLs in user_posts and publication; required username or publication parameters must still be supplied. Returned post lists may include restricted posts without granting access to paywalled full text.

Medium API questions

What can I retrieve with the Medium API?

Set platform to medium. The current catalog lists tag, posts by user, and publication. These action names identify different Medium objects or views; they are not interchangeable search modes.

Which input starts a Medium `tag` request?

Specifies the Medium topic tag slug (such as machine-learning), which strips leading # symbols, converts text to lowercase, and replaces spaces with hyphens. It does not perform arbitrary full-text searches. Send it as tag inside params.

Which fields can Medium `tag` return?

Its declared schema includes title, text, author_name, and author_username. A declared field can still be absent from an individual record, and every other action has its own field list.

Does every Medium action return immediately?

Actions labeled asynchronous return a job ID you poll. Every other action can also run asynchronously: add "mode": "async" to the request body to receive a job ID immediately, useful for slow tasks or large limits. The current catalog contains sync delivery.
